Coast Guard medevacs diver near Santa Barbara Island

65 Point MuguLOS ANGELES – The Coast Guard medically evacuated a 47-year-old male near Santa Barbara Island Sunday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach received a report at 9:25 a.m., from the operator of the 80-foot dive vessel, Horizon, reporting that a male aboard had experienced a seizure.

A Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Forward Operating Base Point Mugu, medically evacuated the man from vessel and transported him to the University of California Los Angeles’ medical facility where EMS was waiting.

The Coast Guard reminds mariners and beachgoers who suffer from emergency health complications to always be prepared while on or near the water.

*       Always bring required medications with you while on the water.
*       Carry additional auto injections, insulin or inhalers with you if you suffer from allergies, diabetes or asthma.
*       Individuals who are known to have health complications such as a heart conditions etc., should remain cautious of the health risks while boating.
