Coast Guard medevacs diver from near Anacapa Island

CHANNEL ISLANDS, Calif. – Coast Guard Station Channel Islands medevaced a 49 year-old diver this morning off the diving vessel Peace near the coast of Anacapa Island.

The diver complained of severe abdominal pains and nausea about thirty minutes after his first dive. Station Channel Islands launched a 47-foot motor-lifeboat to the scene shortly after the report was received.

The diver was taken to Channel Islands Harbor where he was transferred to an ambulance and taken to St. Johns Hospital. Gulf Coast EMF and Ventura County Fire Department also responded.

The Coast Guard reminds boaters to have the required safety equipment and to exercise good judgment while on the water. By ensuring all lifesaving equipment is in working order and filing a float plan with friends or relatives, boaters can increase the effectiveness of Coast Guard response in the event of an emergency.
