PHILADELPHIA — The Coast Guard medevaced a man Sunday from a vessel about 8 miles east of Barnegat Light, New Jersey.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay in Philadelphia received notification at approximately 10:45 a.m. from a crew member aboard the vessel Dina Dee that a man was reportedly involved in a dive incident.
Sector Delaware Bay diverted a 47-foot Motor Lifeboat crew from Coast Guard Station Barnegat Light.
The MLB crew arrived on scene and transported the man to awaiting EMS personnel at Station Barnegat Light. The man was then airlifted to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in Philadelphia where he received further medical attention.
“Always paying attention to people around you and being able to recognize signs and symptoms of possible medical problems is very important,” said Petty Officer 3rd Class Paul Zimmermann, the coxswain on the MLB. “Luckily we were nearby and able to assist in getting him to proper medical care.”
