Coast Guard medevacs diver 40 miles east of Cape May, NJ

65 Atlantic City hoistPHILADELPHIA — The Coast Guard medevaced a man Saturday from a vessel about 40 miles east of Cape May, New Jersey.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay in Philadelphia received notification at approximately 4 p.m. from the crew aboard the vessel Explorer that a 70-year-old man was involved in a dive incident after the man missed decompression.

Sector Delaware Bay issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast and notified diver alert network.

Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City launched an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew to assist.

“It was my first time hoisting a diver in need of a hyperbaric chamber and I’m just happy we could get him to proper medical care,” said Hector Eagan, the rescue swimmer on the case.

The man was hoisted and transported to University of Pennsylvania Medical Center in Philadelphia where he received further medical attention.
