Coast Guard medevacs diabetic man from disabled sailing vessel near Seattle

45 Port AransasSEATTLE — A Coast Guard boat crew medevaced a man who was reportedly diabetic and unsure when he had last taken his medication, from a disabled 32-foot sailing vessel north of Shishole Bay, Sunday.

A crew aboard a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium from Coast Guard Station Seattle transported the man to emergency medical services personnel at Shilshole marina.

Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound received a report of the disabled vessel from a good Samaritan and arrived on scene to take the vessel in tow. After the man told the boat crew he was diabetic and did not remember the last time he took his medication, the crew dropped the tow and transported the man to medical responders.

After the man was safely ashore, the crew returned to the adrift sailing vessel and towed it to Shilshole Marina.

The weather at the time of the medevac was reported to be an air temperature of 76 degrees with 8 mph winds.
