Coast Guard medevacs cruise ship passenger in Hoonah

JUNEAU, Alaska – A Coast Guard Air Station Sitka aircrew aboard an MH-60 Jayhawk rescue helicopter safely medevaced a 59-year-old woman from Hoonah to Juneau after she was transported from the 965-foot cruise ship Celebrity Millennium to the Hoonah airport at 11:56 p.m. Sunday.

Personnel at the 17th Coast Guard District command center in Juneau received a call from the medical officer aboard the Celebrity Millennium at approximately 10:21 p.m. requesting a medevac for the woman who was reportedly suffering from symptoms of a stroke.

After the Coast Guard duty flight surgeon recommended the woman be medevaced the helicopter rescue crew was launched. Once on scene the rescue crew was able to safely land and medevac the woman. She was transported to Juneau where local emergency medical services were waiting to transfer her to Bartlett Regional Hospital at 12:54 a.m.
