KEY WEST, Fla.–The Coast Guard received a call Friday at approximately 3 p.m. from the cruise ship, Carnival Conquest, requesting a passenger be airlifted for emergency medical treatment 45 miles southwest of Key West, Fla.
The Coast Guard immediately responded by diverting an HH-65 Dolphin helicopter with a deployed crew from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans.
The helicopter arrived on scene at approximately 3:30 p.m. and hoisted the 81-year-old male patient and nurse.
Once safely aboard the helicopter, the crew transported the two people and arrived at about 4:50 p.m. at Lower Keys Medical Center.
