SAN DIEGO – An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Sector San Diego medically evacuated a passenger from a cruise ship 45 miles southwest of San Diego Wednesday morning.

Late Tuesday night, the crew of the cruise ship Golden Princess notified the Coast Guard that the 85-year-old woman needed immediate medical assistance. A Coast Guard flight surgeon was consulted and recommended the passenger be medically evacuated.

At approximately 11:30 p.m., Tuesday, a helicopter was launched from Sector San Diego to conduct the medevac.

The helicopter crew hoisted the cruise ship passenger and a nurse, who were then flown to the Coast Guard base and transferred to awaiting emergency medical personnel.
