Coast Guard medevacs cruise ship Carnival Imagination passenger southwest of Point Loma

60 San DiegoSAN DIEGO — The Coast Guard medically evacuated an 24-year-old woman from a cruise ship approximately 50 miles southwest of Point Loma Saturday.

At approximately 10 a.m. Saturday, watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector San Diego received a call from the crew of the cruise ship Carnival Imagination that a 24-year-old female passenger was experiencing signs of acute appendicitis.

Sector San Diego’s flight surgeon recommended that the patient be medically evacuated and taken to a hospital for emergency care.

A Coast Guard Sector San Diego MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew launched, arrived on scene and safely hoisted the woman.

The Jayhawk crew arrived at Sector San Diego and the woman was transferred to awaiting EMS at approximatly 12:30 p.m..

She was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital, in San Diego.

Her condition is unknown.
