Coast Guard medevacs crewmember from fishing vessel off Crystal River

7th Coast Guard District NewsST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Coast Guard medically evacuated a 53-year-old male Tuesday approximately 75-miles west of Crystal River, Fla.

Rescued is Guy Derash, 53.

Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg watchstanders were notified at 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, from the 73-foot Fort Myers Beach-homeported commercial fishing vessel Kayden Nicole, that a crewmember had been suffering from possible seizure-like symptoms since Monday night and was in need of medical attention. A Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, Fla., MH-60 Jayhawk rescue helicopter air crew responded to the distress.

The air crew arrived on scene at 7:30 p.m. and airlifted Derash.

Derash was transported safely to Tampa General hospital for further medical evaluation.
