5th Coast Guard District News
CAPE MAY, N.J. — The Coast Guard medevaced an injured 48-year-old man Saturday after he fell approximately five feet while aboard a boat off the coast of Cape May.

Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay watchstanders in Philadelphia received the report at approximately 8 p.m. from a person aboard the boat.

A 45-foot Response Boat – Medium boat crew from Coast Guard Station Cape May arrived on scene, transferred the man aboard their boat and transported the man back to the station where he was transferred to awaiting emergency medical personnel.

“We decided to launch due to the distance left until they returned to port, there only being two crewmembers aboard, and the fact one of them had already fallen and injured himself,” said Petty Officer 3rd Class Ricky Ringel, a watchstander and boat crewmember at Coast Guard Station Cape May. “We didn’t want them to be in a more difficult situation if something were to have happened to the second crewmember.”

The man’s condition remained stable throughout the transit.
