Coast Guard medevacs Anchorage man in Kodiak

JUNEAU, Alaska – A Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk rescue helicopter crew from Air Station Kodiak rescued a man after he fell from a cliff while hiking in the vicinity of Zachar Bay on the west side of Kodiak Island injuring his ankle Saturday.

Mike Brown, age unknown, an Anchorage resident, fell down a cliff and reportedly suffered a compound fracture to his ankle. Brown’s friend made a call to Andrew Air who dropped the men off earlier who in turn called the Coast Guard 17th District Command Center.

The Coast Guard launched a Jayhawk helicopter crew at 2:20 p.m. arriving on scene at 3:15 p.m. After safely hoisting Brown at 3:24 p.m. he was taken to Air Station Kodiak landing at 4:20 p.m. where local emergency medical services were waiting.

Brown was transported in stable condition to Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center for further care.
