MIAMI — A Coast Guard helicopter crew medically evacuated a 21-year-old man who was suffering from health issues while aboard the cruise ship Disney Fantasy off the coast of Key West, Fla. Thursday.
At approximately 12 p.m. watchstanders at Coast Guard Seventh District command center received notification from the cruise ship of a 21-year-old man who reported experiencing chest pains on Wednesday after completing two scuba dives.
Medical crew aboard the cruise ship examined the patient and discovered he was having difficulty breathing.
After discussing the man’s condition with the Coast Guard’s on-duty flight surgeon, it was determined that a medevac was needed immediately.
An aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Miami launched, arrived on scene and hoisted the man and a nurse off of the cruise ship.
The man was later transferred to Mariner’s Hospital in Tavernier, Fla., where his condition was listed as stable.
