Coast Guard medevacs ailing fisherman

SAN DIEGO – A boat crew from U.S. Coast Guard Station San Diego medically evacuated a man who was experiencing chest pain aboard a sport fishing boat 12 miles from San Diego Wednesday afternoon.

At noon, the Coast Guard received a call from the fishing vessel Malihini stating that a passenger on board was experiencing chest pain. It was determined that the man needed immediate medical attention and a 45-foot Response Boat crew launched to assist him.

The Coast Guard also issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast, and another fisherman in the area responded to it by delivering oxygen to the man aboard the Malihini.

Once on scene, the Coast Guard boat crew took the man aboard and transported him back to San Diego and transferred him to emergency medical personnel.
