JUNEAU, Alaska — A Coast Guard Station Juneau rescue boatcrew medevaced a passenger from the cruise ship Celebrity Solstice near Juneau, Alaska, Tuesday evening.
The 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew transferred the patient from the cruise ship and transported him to Auke Bay where he was met by awaiting emergency medical services personnel.
Coast Guard Sector Juneau command center watchstanders received a medevac request from the captain aboard the Celebrity Solstice for a 55-year-old man reportedly suffering from internal bleeding. The duty flight surgeon was consulted and recommended the medevac.
“Providing services to Alaska mariners for unpredictable injuries or illness falls under the Coast Guard’s priority of ensuring the safety of life at sea,” said Petty Officer 1st Class Christopher Gauthier, Sector Juneau watchstander. “Our operational crews are ready to respond to emergency medical situations at all times.”
The weather on scene at the time of the medevac was reported as 17-mph winds, 3-foot seas with 8 miles of visibility.
