Coast Guard medevacs 81-year-old woman from cruise ship 33 miles west of La Jolla

45 San DiegoSAN DIEGO — The Coast Guard medically evacuated an 81-year-old woman approximately 33 miles west of La Jolla, California, Monday.

At approximately 9 p.m. Monday, watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector San Diego received a report from the crew of cruise ship Carnival Imagination stating that a female passenger was experiencing heart-attack like symptoms.

The Coast Guard duty flight surgeon recommended that the patient be medically evacuated and taken to a hospital for emergency care.

A Coast Guard Station San Diego 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew launched, arrived on scene, then safely embarked the woman, her husband and a nurse from the cruise ship.

At approximately 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, the RBM crew returned to Sector San Diego, where she was transferred to awaiting EMS.

She was taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital in Hillcrest.
