FORT MACON, N.C. – The Coast Guard medevaced a 6-year-old boy Friday night after he fell from a ladder and hit his head aboard a 58-foot sport fisher anchored near Cape Lookout National Seashore in Lookout Bight.
The boat called Sector North Carolina watchstanders with their cell phone at 6:55 p.m. and reported that the boy fell from a four-foot ladder and injured his head. He was having problems moving part of his body.
A Coast Guard Station Fort Macon 25-foot response boat crew was dispatched along with two Atlantic Beach Fire Department paramedics to bring the boy safely to shore.
Upon arriving at the sport fisher, the paramedics put the boy on a backboard and secured his head and neck before attempting to transport him. They transferred him to the Coast Guard boat and brought he and his parents to shore where EMS were waiting.
The boy was transported to Carteret General Hospital in Morehead City for further treatment.
