Coast Guard medevacs 59-year-old male near Lompoc

SAN PEDRO, Calif. — The Coast Guard medevaced a 59-year-old male 10 nautical miles southwest of Point Conception, Lompoc, Monday.

At approximately 5:50 p.m., the crew aboard the Bahamian-flagged bulk carrier ship, Sheila Ann, notified Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach of a male Ukrainian crewmember who sustained a severe injury to his hand and requested a medevac.

After consulting with the flight surgeon, an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Forward Operating Base Mugu was dispatched.

Once on scene, the Dolphin crew hoisted the male into the helicopter and transported him to Santa Barbara Municipal Airport where emergency medical services took the man to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for further medical care.

He was last reported to be in stable condition.
