Coast Guard medevacs 50-year-old male from fishing vessel

BOSTON — A Coast Guard crew medically evacuated a 50-year-old man from a fishing vessel approximately 110 miles east of Provincetown, Mass., Saturday.

Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England command center received a call at 10:13 a.m., Saturday, from the 74-foot fishing vessel Mischief requesting assistance for a man suffering facial injuries after being hit with the vessel’s gear.

An MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter crew and an HU-25 Falcon Jet crew from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod launched to assist.

The helicopter crew safely hoisted the man from the Mischief and transported him to Logan International Airport as the Falcon crew provided communication support.

“Coast helicopters and fixed winged crews are trained to respond rapidly to mariners in distress,” said Lt. Scott Koser, an Air Station Cape Cod Public Affairs Officer. “This case illustrates the serve weather conditions that the Coast Guard can successfully operate in.”
