Coast Guard medevacs 36-year-old man 150 miles west of San Diego

60 San DiegoSAN DIEGO — The Coast Guard medically evacuated a 36-year-old man approximately 150 miles west of San Diego, Sunday.

At approximately 2:30 p.m. Sunday, watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector San Diego received a report from the crew of the 93-foot passenger vessel Craig G stating that a male passenger had sustained a severe leg injury and needed assistance.

The Coast Guard duty flight surgeon recommended that the patient be medically evacuated and taken to a hospital for emergency care.

A Coast Guard Sector San Diego MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter was launched, arrived on scene, then safely hoisted the man at approximately 5 p.m.

At approximately 6:45 p.m., the Jayhawk crew returned to Sector San Diego, where he was transferred to awaiting EMS.

He was taken to UCSD Medical Center in Hillcrest. He was in stable condition.

The Craig G is homeported in Los Angeles.

Weather on scene was four-to-six-foot seas and five knot winds.
