Coast Guard medevacs 35-year-old with respiratory problems off Attlantic City, N.J.

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – The Coast Guard medevaced a 35-year-old woman today who was having trouble breathing while aboard a cruise ship about 150 miles east of Atlantic City.

The Coast Guard received the call at about 1 a.m. that a female passenger aboard the cruise ship Explorer of the Seas had a high fever and was having difficulty breathing.

The Coast Guard launched a helicopter rescue crew from Air Station Atlantic City and a C-130 airplane crew from Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., to meet up with the cruise ship when they were within 100 miles of Atlantic City.

The helicopter crew arrived on scene at about 4 a.m., hoisted the patient and transfered her to awaiting medical personnel at Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City in stable condition.
