LOS ANGELES — The Coast Guard medically evacuated a 23-year-old man from the USS Princeton, a Navy guided missile cruiser approximately 30 miles south of Point Conception, Tuesday.
At 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles/Long Beach command center received a report that a male aboard the Navy ship was experiencing symptoms of appendicitis. The District 11 flight surgeon recommended that the sailor be medically evacuated.
A MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Los Angeles was immediately launched to assist. The Dolphin crew safely hoisted the man aboard the helicopter and transferred him to Vandenberg Air Force Base where he was met by EMS and transferred to a local hospital.
