NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard medevaced a man from a cruise ship in the Gulf of Mexico approximately 230 miles south of Southwest Pass, La., Friday, at approximately 5 p.m.
Watchstanders at the Eighth Coast Guard District command center received a report at approximately 8 a.m., that a 22-year-old man aboard the Carnival Cruise ship, Triumph, was in need of medical evacuation after ingesting 12 grams of acetaminophen.
Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile, Ala., launched an HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and crew to the scene at approximately 10 a.m. The crew successfully hoisted the man off the Triumph and transported him to awaiting emergency medical services at ATC Mobile. He was then transported to the Mobile Infirmary Medical Center for further assistance.
“This case illustrates how far the Coast Guard will go to save a single life,” said Lt. Ron Kooper, command duty officer for the Eighth Coast Guard District command center.
The man’s condition is unknown.
