Coast Guard medevacs 2 sailors from USS Dwight Eisenhower

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – The Coast Guard medevaced two sailors from a Navy ship 46 miles off the coast of Virginia Beach, Va., Saturday.

Navy Second Fleet Command contacted the Coast Guard at 10:16 p.m. Friday to request a medevac for a sailor aboard the USS Dwight Eisenhower suffering from cardiac arrhythmia.

A helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City transported the sailor to Naval Medical Center Portsmouth.

While the crew was at the NMC, the Navy contacted the Coast Guard again requesting another medevac of a 20-year-old female suffering from burns to her face aboard the Dwight Eisenhower.

The helicopter crew returned to the aircraft carrier and took the injured sailor to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment at the hospital’s burn unit.
