Coast Guard medevacs 18-year-old passenger from cruise ship Carnival Inspiration

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Coast Guard medically evacuated an 18-year-old man, Monday, from a cruise ship southeast of Gadson Point in Tampa Bay.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg were notified by crewmembers of the cruise ship Carnival Inspiration, at approximately 5:15 p.m., that passenger Justin Buchan was suffering from severe abdominal pain. After consulting with a Coast Guard flight surgeon, the decision was made to medically evacuate Buchan.

A Coast Guard 41-foot response boat crew from Station St. Petersburg responded, arriving on scene at 5:49 p.m. Crewmembers safely transported Buchan back to Station St. Petersburg and transferred him to awaiting EMS at 6:12 p.m.

Buchan was taken to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg.
