MOBILE, Ala. – The Coast Guard medevaced a crewmember from a vessel near the mouth of Mobile Bay, Thursday, at about 7:45 p.m.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Mobile received a call via marine-band radio channel 16 at approximately 7:15 p.m., from crewmembers aboard the Caribe Pioneer, a 112-foot tug vessel, that a 31-year-old man had reportedly suffered a head injury following a seizure.
Coast Guard Station Dauphin Island, Ala., deployed a 41-foot utility boat (UTB) and crew, which arrived on scene at approximately 7:30 p.m.
The rescue crew brought the crewman aboard safely and transported him to awaiting emergency medical services personnel at the Coast Guard station.
The crewman declined medical treatment from EMS.
A representative from the tug’s owner, Gulf Caribe Shipping, took the man home.
The Coast Guard recommends all mariners have a marine-band radio on their vessel. Marine-band radios are a more effective way to communicate with rescue personnel as cell phones can fail due to limited battery life or gaps in coverage.
