Coast Guard medevacs 1 from recreational vessel

Coast Guard 8th District News
NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard medevaced a woman from a 36-foot recreational vessel in the Gulf of Mexico, Sunday.

Rescued was Nancy Simon, 50.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received the initial report from a family member of Simon at approximately 11:50 a.m., reporting that a person aboard the 36-foot recreational vessel, Designated Diver, had injured their back and was in need of medevac, 45 miles south of Marsh Island.

Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans launched an MH-65C helicopter and crew to assist.

The helicopter crew hoisted Simon and transported her to Lafayette General Medical Center for treatment.

“Our constant training as well as the professionalism and good judgment of the operator of the Designated Diver allowed us to conduct the medevac quickly and safely,” said Lt. j.g. Dan Miller, aviation material officer for Air Station New Orleans.

Her condition is unknown.
