Coast Guard medevacs 1 from motor vessel

Coast Guard 8th District News
MOBILE, Ala. — The Coast Guard medevaced a man from a motor vessel, Friday, about 20 miles south of Panama City, Fla., in the Gulf of Mexico.

Rescued was Harry Cordell, 55.

At approximately 9:50 a.m., watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Mobile command center received a call from the motor vessel Tomcat, reporting that a crewmember was in need of a medevac.

A 45-foot response boat (RB-M) and crew from Coast Guard Station Panama City, transported Cordell to the Panama City Marina where emergency medical services personnel were waiting.

“As boating season picks up the Coast Guard urges members to use safe boating practices by having a VHF-FM marine-band radio on board,” said Lt. Ryan Baxter, Eighth Coast Guard District command duty officer. “This allows for a swift response if a mariner is in distress.”

His condition is unknown.
