DESTIN, Fla. — The Coast Guard medevaced 37-year-old woman from a good Samaritan vessel 350 yards east of the Mid-Bay Bridge, Sunday.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Station Destin received a report that two jet skis collided resulting in a female rider suffering an inury to her leg.
A good Samaritan who witnessed the collision brought the woman aboard his vessel and contacted Station Destin through VHF-FM channel 16.
A Station Destin 25-foot Response Boat-Small and crew arrived on the scene and took the woman aboard and brought her to Legendary Marina where she was transferred to EMS and taken to Sacred Heart Hospital.
“Channel 16 is the best way to reach the Coast Guard for hailing and distress,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Corey Walters, officer of the day for Station Destin. “Mariners should keep in mind that if there is ever an emergency, the Coast Guard monitors that channel 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”
