ATLANTIC BEACH, N.C. – A Coast Guard rescue boat crew from Station Fort Macon along with Atlantic Beach Emergency Medical Services assisted a person in distress in Beaufort Sound on the North side of Shackleford Banks, Tuesday.

Watchstanders at Sector North Carolina received a report from the person’s friend stating that he had been bitten on the foot by an unknown marine animal. The 38-year-old man was reported as having a great deal of swelling and pain in his left leg.
