Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Galveston conducts security boarding

GALVESTON, Texas – Crewmembers from Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Galveston conducted a security boarding on the bulk carrier Harriett, anchored off Bolivar, Texas, at 8:30 a.m. today.

A boarding team from Marine Safety Unit Galveston conducted the boarding as part of their responsibilities in maintaining port security for the Houston Ship Channel.

As part of any security boarding, the boarding team conducts an inspection of the ship, crew and documentation to ensure they are upholding the U.S. Maritime Laws. The inspection of the ship spans from the engine room and bilges to the top of the bridge.

If both the documentation and the safety inspection pass, the ship is cleared to continue to port. If any discrepancies are found, the Coast Guard notifies the appropriate agency to ensure corrective measures are taken.
