Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Duluth relocates to Duluth Federal Building

DULUTH, Minn. — Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Duluth, Minnesota, is announcing a permanent relocation of the unit scheduled to begin Monday.

The MSU, currently located at 600 South Lake Avenue in the Army Corps of Engineers building in Canal Park, Minnesota, will permanently relocate to the Gerald W. Heaney Federal Building.

MSU Duluth is staffed with 22 active duty, six reserves and five civilian employees. MSU Duluth conducts a variety of marine safety and environmental response missions including: vessel inspections; foreign vessel compliance examinations; maritime pollution and security contingency planning and response; marine casualty investigations; waterfront facility inspections; marine event permitting; and fishing vessel safety.

“We began planning this move in 2010 when we anticipated a need for more space and closer collaboration with our federal partners,” said Cmdr. Al Moore, commanding officer of MSU Duluth.

“We are extremel grateful to the Army Corps of Engineers for graciously hosting MSU Duluth for over four decades in a wonderful location and building.”
