Coast Guard, marine police search for missing girl near Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA – The Coast Guard and members of the Philadelphia Marine Police are searching for a 9-year-old female Wednesday after she entered the Schuylkill River in the vicinity of 56th Street and did not resurface Tuesday.

The Coast Guard received a call at 8:11 p.m. from a member of the Philadelphia Fire Board reporting a 9-year-old female in the Schuylkill River off of 56th Street.

A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Philadelphia arrived on scene at 8:54 p.m. to assist marine police who were already searching.

The 9-year-old female is reported to be wearing a white shirt.

“The Coast Guard has been searching all night and is currently still searching this morning with members of the local authorities,” said Fern Ferrano, a search and rescue coordinator at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay in Philadelphia.
