PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Coast Guardsmen aboard the new 23-foot Special Purpose Craft – Shallow Water response boat, enforce a safety zone around wild horses from Assateague Island, Va., at the 83rd Annual Pony Swim in Chincoteague, Va., Wednesday, July 30, 2008.
The Coast Guard, Coast Guard Auxiliary, and Virginia Marine Resources Commission were all present to enforce safety laws regarding life jackets, licenses, no wake zones, and safety perimeters.
“This international event could not have been safely executed without the cooperation of the Coast Guard, Virginia Marine Resource Commission, and the Coast Guard Auxiliary,” said Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Richard L. Ball, officer in charge of Station Chincoteague.
