ALAMEDA, Calif. — The Coast Guard maintained a safety zone for a barge, carrying three 253-foot cranes, that transited narrowly under the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges en route to the Port of Oakland Tuesday morning.
The barge, from China, transited safely under the bridges with support of the local law enforcement, tug boats, pilot services and Coast Guard Vessel Traffic Safety.
Coast Guard Station San Francisco provided the safety zone in the form of two 25-foot response boats, which ensured local mariners didn’t present a safety concern or hazard to navigation for the barge.
The Coast Guard reminds mariners to adhere to navigation rules and always operate your vessel defensively, being mindful that larger vessels carrying a significant load are very restricted in their maneuverability.
