Coast Guard locates overdue boaters

 NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard located two overdue boaters at a camp site on Lake Maurepas today after they were reported overdue by family members.

Coast Guard Sector New Orleans Command Center received a call at approximately 4 a.m., from the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, reporting that David McGee, 36 and Spencer McGee, 12 had not returned home from a fishing trip, according to family members.

The Coast Guard launched an HH-65C rescue helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans, a 25-foot smallboat crew from Coast Guard Station New Orleans and a Coast Guard Auxiliary crew.

At 6:30 a.m., Coast Guard Station New Orleans located a 15-foot green aluminum skiff, that the boaters were reportedly aboard, capsized approximately 1-mile from the shore.

At 7:30 a.m., the Coast Guard helicopter crew located the two people at a camp site waving their lifejackets and relayed their position to the the 25-foot smallboat crew. The two people were identified as the overdue boaters and were transported to the North Pass boat launch.
