Coast Guard Locates Missing Kayaker, Another Still Missing

HONOLULU – A Coast Guard HH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter crew located one of the kayakers in his kayak 25 miles west of Kaumalapau Harbor at around 11 a.m.  The Coast Guard rescue helicopter crew flew the kayaker to Kahului Airport where Maui emergency medical technicians waited. The kayaker was reported in good condition with slight hypothermia.

The second kayak was found 2 miles south of the first kayaker with no person in the kayak.

The Coast Guard is still actively searching for the second kayaker with two HH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopters, a C-130 search plane from Air Station Barbers Point and the Cutter Kittiwake, an 87-foot patrol boat. The Coast Guard plans to search throughout the night at a minimum.
