SAN PEDRO, Calif. – The Coast Guard and Baywatch lifeguards searched for and located a missing 60-year-old jet skier who was reported overdue near Catalina Island, Calif., Monday evening.

A MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Los Angeles and the Coast Guard Cutter Halibut were launched after a friend reported the man missing, when he did not return as planned two hours earlier.

The helicopter crew spotted a jet skier entangled in a large clump of kelp. After lowering the rescue swimmer to confirm the man’s identity and need for assistance, the pilot directed the Baywatch Isthmus boat to the location.

Baywatch Isthmus safely towed the man back to safety. No injuries were reported.
