Coast Guard locates kayak, seeks assistance in identifying owner

7th Coast Guard District NewsCLEARWATER, Fla. – The Coast Guard is asking for assistance in locating the owner of a kayak found at the Clearwater Harbor Marina, Wednesday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg, Fla., received a call at 7:44 a.m., from an employee at the Clearwater Harbor Marina stating he found a kayak adrift in the area.

The Coast Guard investigated and gathered the following information regarding the vessel:

  • 8-feet in length;
  • One person kayak;
  • Red in color;
  • Multiple stickers and decals;
  • Decal that reads ‘Mountain of Big Canoe,’ which is a gated community located in northern Georgia.

The Coast Guard is attempting to locate the owner or anyone that may have amplifying information regarding the vessel and also to rule out any possibility of maritime distress associated with the vessel.
