Coast Guard locates 2 overdue jet skiers near Long Beach Island, NJ

Mid Atlantic Coast Guard NewsATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — The Coast Guard located two jet skiers Monday near Long Beach Island after being reported overdue late Sunday.

A boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Barnegat Light heard a whistle near an island while searching Barnegat Bay, which led them to the father and son who were overdue.

The Station Barnegat Light boatcrew transferred the father and son ashore with no medical concerns.

The survivors said they were setting up to go kite surfing when their jet ski got away from them. They swam to the island where they were later found.

“We’re very pleased with the outcome of this search and rescue case,” said Chief Warrant Officer Jay Greiner, commanding officer of Station Barnegat Light. “The father and son were very wise to stay together, remain calm, wear their life jackets, and wait for responders to find them. Simple boating safety practices can truly make a difference during a distress situation.”
