CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Coast Guard has located the body of a fisherman, 5 miles north east of South Padre Island.
A watchstander at Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi received a call from the shrimping vessel Matilda at 6:35 a.m. reporting that a crewmember had gone missing and was last seen at 1:30 a.m.
Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi launched an HH-65C Dolphin helicopter crew and two rescue boat crews were dispatched from Coast Guard Station South Padre Island to start searching for the man.
At 10:40 a.m. the helicopter crew located the deceased individual and relayed the location to the rescue boat crew. The rescue boat crew arrived a short time later and assisted with the recovery effort.
