Coast Guard, locals rescue 2 near Mobile

65 DetroitNEW ORLEANS — The Mobile Fire and Rescue, and Coast Guard rescued two fishermen near Battleship Park, Alabama, Monday evening.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Mobile received a call at approximately 8:13 p.m., reporting a father and son in the water after their canoe sank while crab fishing. The watchstanders diverted a Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from training to assist the fishermen.

The helicopter crew arrived on scene, hoisted one of the fishermen and transported him to awaiting emergency medical personnel next to the Battleship Alabama. The Mobile Fire and Rescue fireboat crew rescued the other fisherman.

The men were in reported to be in stable condition with no reported injuries.
