BOSTON — The Coast Guard dispatched a rescue boat Thursday to the scene of a sailboat collision near Bixby Island on Lake Champlain, Vermont.
At about 12:30 p.m., the crew aboard the 36-foot sailing vessel Eiger Strubli contacted watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Northern New England, and reported that Eiger Strubli and the 40-foot sailing vessel Mane had collided.
The Eiger Strubli crew reported one woman aboard was injured.
A 29-foot response boat crew from Coast Guard Station Burlington, already underway, diverted to the scene, and a rescue boat from Clinton County Sheriff’s Department launched.
Clinton County arrived on scene and took the injured woman aboard. The Coast Guard crew established a safety zone, ensured no further injuries and that both vessels were stable.
Clinton County transported the injured woman to awaiting Emergency Medical Services on land who took her to the hospital. Her condition is unknown.
The Coast Guard and Clinton County escorted both sail boats and crew safely to Mooney Bay Marina in Plattsburg, New York.
The cause of the collision is under investigation.
