Coast Guard, local authorities recover 1, search for 1 in Delaware River near Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA – The Coast Guard and local authorities recovered a 43-year-old-male deceased and are searching Saturday for a 11-year-old male near the Tacony Palmyra Bridge in the Delaware River near Philadelphia after they went swimming from a 16-foot boat.

Names are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The Coast Guard received a call at 8:40 p.m. from the Burlington County Police Department reporting two people were in the water and one person was still aboard the boat. The person told authorities by the time he turned the boat around to get the two in the water he had lost sight of them.

A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Philadelphia, A rescue helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, N.J., Philadelphia Marine Police and the New Jersey State police arrived on scene and continued to search throughout the night and will continue searching Saturday for the missing person.
