SAN FRANCISCO – The Coast Guard and the South San Francisco Police Department are actively tracking a stolen sailboat with two abducted children aboard in the waters off the Monterey Peninsula, Friday, Sept. 7, 2012.
Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector San Francisco command center received an agency assist request from the South San Francisco Police Department on Wednesday. The sailboat was reported stolen from the Ballena Isle Marina in Alameda, Calif., Tuesday.
Involved in the search are an HC-130 Hercules plane and crew from Coast Guard Air Station Sacramento, an HH-65 Dolphin and crew from Coast Guard Air Station San Francisco, Coast Guard Station Monterey, and two 87-foot coastal patrol boats – the Coast Guard Cutter Tern and the Coast Guard Cutter Hawksbill – along with assets from the South San Francisco Police Department, the Monterey County Sherriff’s Department, the Monterey Police Department, the California Department of Fish and Game, as well as other local law enforcement agencies.
There is no additional information available about the tracked vessel due to the sensitivity of the law enforcement situation at this time.
“This case highlights the successful partnership between the Coast Guard, our federal and local law enforcement partners, especially the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the South San Francisco Police Department,” said Cmdr. Donald Montoro, Chief of Response, Coast Guard Sector San Francisco. “We train with our local partners so that when these complex situations arise we can respond quickly.”
