PHILADELPHIA – The Coast Guard along with local agencies have suspended their search for three unconfirmed children after their mother reported throwing them in the water from the Benjamin Franklin Bridge Tuesday.
Crewmembers called off the search at 12:25 p.m. after searching 10 square miles for approximately eight hours, 30 minutes.
Michelle “Shelly” Perez called St. Joseph’s Hospital in Philadelphia reporting she threw her 4-year-old, 2-year-old and 5-month-old children into the water. The Coast Guard was notified at 3:55 a.m.
Crews from Coast Guard Station Philadelphia, Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, N.J., Camden Police and Fire Departments, Delaware River Port Authority, New Jersey State Police, Philadelphia Fire and Rescue and Philadelphia Marine Police aided in the search.
The incident is under investigation by the Delaware River Port Authority.
The whereabouts of Michelle “Shelly” Perez are still unknown.
