JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Coast Guard and local agencies are searching for a missing swimmer in the Nassau Sound near Bird Island, Saturday.
Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville operational watchstanders were notified by a good Samaritan on the pleasure craft Shady Grady at approximately 12:50 p.m., that the missing male and his wife were swimming in approximately 15-feet of water when the male got swept offshore by the current and went underwater.
Rescue crews on scene searching are:
- Coast Guard Station Mayport, Fla., small rescue boat crew
- Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office air and water rescue crews
- Nassau County Sheriff’s Department rescue crew
- Florida Fish and Wildlife rescue crew
