NEW YORK – Coast Guard and partner agency crews are searching for an overdue boater, Sunday in the vicinity of Gilgo Beach, New York.
Missing is Andrew Weis, a 48-year-old male.
At approximately 9:30 p.m., Saturday, watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound received notification of an overdue boater in an eight-foot white and gray dinghy.
Weis’ girlfriend reported that he had left from Gilgo Beach at approximately 5:30 p.m., Saturday, en-route to Anchorage Yacht Club in Lindenhurst, New York.
Weis was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, beige shorts, and a white hat. He is an experienced boater and a strong swimmer who had a life jacket onboard.
Searching for Mr. Weis are:
- A Coast Guard Station Fire Island Smallboat crew
- A Coast Guard MH-60 Jawhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod
- Babylon Fire Department crews
- West Babylon Fire Department Crews
- Suffolk Marine and Air crews
The Sector Command Center is broadcasting an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast to all mariners along the New York Coast.
