APOLLO BEACH, Fla. — The Coast Guard and local agencies are searching for possible persons in the water after a helicopter crashed in the vicinity of Apollo Beach, Friday.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg received a call at 3:24 p.m., from dispatchers from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office regarding a helicopter that had crashed in the vicinity of Apollo Beach.
Searching are:
- A Coast Guard 45-foot Response-Boat Medium boat crew from Station St. Petersburg
- A Coast Guard MH-60 Jawhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Clearwater
- Two Coast Guard Auxiliary boat crews
- A Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission boat crew
- A Tampa Fire Rescue boat crew
- A Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office helicopter crew and boat crew
- Federal Aviation Administration
- A MacDill Marine Security boat crew
The Coast Guard and local agencies have created a safety zone around the wreckage while crews continue to search the area.
