BOSTON — Coast Guard crews along with local agencies were searching for a possible missing paddle boarder Thursday night, north of Rye Harbor, New Hampshire.
At approximately 8:09 p.m. Coast Guard Sector Northern New England watchstanders were notified by the Rockingham Sheriff’s Department of a female paddle boarder in apparent distress.
A 29-foot rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Portsmouth Harbor and an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod immediately launched to search the area.
In addition, a New Castle Fire Department boat also launched to assist.
The Sheriff’s Department reported seeing the paddle boarder waving a bright white light approximately a half-mile off shore before losing sight of her around 8:30 p.m.
There are currently no correlating missing persons reports in the area.
